Sometimes you're cool; sometimes you're lame ... the Traveling Wilburys were built on this sound and this understanding and this rolling part of rock 'n roll. As the decades go by it is fascinating (to me) to see how right The Beatles as a mindset were to recognize what I and many, many others couldn't: that all 4 were essential to the band and that, unlike the Stones, losing any one would end The Beatles. George was essential and in some ways the heart of the band, as they all were.
Holy moley guacamole that was great. Also: stunned to learn years later that this was Alan White (from Yes of all things!) on drums, not Ringo as I'd somehow thought I knew as gospel. In circa '72-'73 when my family moved me (because everything is all about me, right?) from NY to sunny Cuyahoga Falls, I could not get this song out of my head and so went to the yellow pages to find a private record dealer in sunny downtown Akron. Called him up, made an appointment, and went to his house real early one weekend morning. He opened up his garage door to show me acres of 45s. We walked down the aisles until he pulled out the 45 rpm. I pulled out my comingled lawn mower biz and paper boy biz money, and the deal went down.
I told him that was all the money I had but could I just look around for awhile. He looked at me and said, OK but you have to promise me you won't steal anything. I said, "promise." He said, "OK," and went back in the house and left me alone to browse for at least an hour and a half.
And no, I am proud to say I actually didn't steal anything on account of, it's wrong to steal from someone who loves music as much as you do and trusts you to boot.
I'm gonna cross post this find of yours on my famous blog of note. What?
