The Shortest Night of the Year

The Druids Had it Right

Deep breath in. Hold. Deep breath out. Hold.

Anyone can breathe in and out. It's the holding where the magic happens.

The Druids knew this. So they celebrated the holding.

Most of the year we're breathing in. Or we're breathing out.

Twice a year, we hold.

And in the pause, anything's possible.

So after months of losing light, we pause. And in that pausing we can reflect light outwards. And then we start the long, slow process of gaining light.

And yes, the gaining and losing is part of a wonderful universal cycle.

But the pauses... the areas between.

That's where the rules are (briefly) thrown out.

And that's where (briefly) anything is possible.

So while others lament the shortest day of the year, the Druids would pause.

And make magic happen.

Happy Winter Solstice -- here's wishing you your own magic.

Never thought of it like that. Thanks for the new perspective, and happy solstice/Christmas/New Year/weekend to you and yours.

Plus with Druids, a lot of people think, "Oh, this is hooded people from yesteryear," but it's not true. No, they're still alive. Although not all of them look Druidish -- they're a very conspiratorial people!

And the hallelujah video is the best Xmas video ever -- seriously great. As Steve Simels would say, if these Quinhagak kids' pure hearts don't bring a smile from you, "I don't want to know you." :-)

Plus-plus: Love the Nod to Bob at 1:45 :-)

Alex, being a Man of the North Country Fair, do you know this teacher or this Quinhagak town?

Mr. Who,

Sadly, I don't know him yet... but I have a feeling our paths will cross in the future. (And thanks for the Steve quote... we need more quotes like that in the world!)
